STUDIO 2B DESTINATIONS

What is a Destination?

A destination is your chance to go somewhere new, do something different, and meet people from everywhere you can imagine.

Things to Know

You can choose from many types of events.  See what life is really like for an M.D. or camp in the green depths of the Costa Rican rainforest.  You can travel around the corner or around the globe.  Don’t be intimidated by the price.  Many of the events are offered at reduced prices.  Plus, Girl Scouts of the USA and Riverland Council have lots of fund raising and scholarship opportunities.

A Destination Match

There are six categories of destinations.  Which one is right for you?

  • International: Trips outside of the U.S.—including     countries such as England, Iceland, Costa Rica, Norway, Galapagos Islands, India, and much, much more!
  • Outdoors: Adventures ranging from learning outdoor skills to Outward Bound challenges on land or sea.  Outward Bound Wilderness offers outdoor courses such as hiking, sailing, canoeing, backpacking and other fun activities!
  • Science: Activities that take science to a new level.  Study everything from animal behavior to different rock formations.
  • People: Opportunities to visit cities and country-sides so you can experience the culture of new places.
  • Apprenticeships: Events that give you hands-on, real-life experiences in a potential career field.
  • Getaways: Two to four day programs all over the country, that don’t require the STUDIO 2B destinations application.

Destinations Focus On...

§         Skill-based experiences that bring girls 11-17 together from around the world

§         Service opportunities, networking, or mentoring for individuals and groups

§         The use of available technology to connect girls to opportunities and to each other

§         Regional events (such as leadership summits, conferences and girl training)

§         Internship and apprenticeship programs and service travel opportunities

§         Individual national leadership opportunities

You know it’s time to go on a Destination when...

v      You’ve got a burning desire to collect more screen names to chat with!

v      You’ve started to consider taking out the trash as exercise.

v      You’ve memorized the times and channels of your favorite (and not so favorite) reruns.

v      You've memorized all the lines in 10 Things I Hate About You.

v      You’re craving new scenes and new friends!

v      If this describes you, then find your destination now!

2008 Destinations
Hosted by the Girl Scouts of Riverland Council

The Girl Scouts of Riverland Council announces three planned Destinations for Summer 2008!  Destinations are trips hosted by councils to provide girls ages 11-17 the opportunity to travel!

Midwest Adventures”

August 5 - 14, 2008

Ages 14 - 17
Cost: $625, plus your travel to
La Crosse

Rock Climbing. Spelunking. Overnight Backpacking. Need I say more? Set out on a three day, two night backpacking trip through Camp Ehawee’s 308 acre pine tree forest.  Tie in and scale the East Tower at Devils Lake before rafting the swift waters of the Peshtigo and Menomonee Rivers. Toss on some old clothes and maneuver your way through Pop’s cave! All while earning the Girl Scouts of Riverland Council’s own ‘On Wisconsin’ Interest Project! Eighty girls between the ages of 14 and 17 will have the opportunity to travel throughout Wisconsin’s Wild Outdoors! Get ready for ten days of adventure including: climbing a 40 foot tall tower, descending deep into a cave, and getting soaking while whitewater rafting two of Wisconsin’s most famous rivers! Girls must love the outdoors, be able to hike long distances, be an advanced swimmer, not be afraid of heights, and be willing to try new and challenging things! Shop til’ you drop at the largest mall in America! Did you know? 258 Statues of Liberty could lie inside the Mall of America.  It’s big enough to hold 32 Boeing 747’s. If a shopper spent 10 minutes browsing at every store, it would take them more than 86 hours to complete their visit to the Mall.  Come see for yourself!  Forty-eight girls between the ages of 11 and 15 will have the opportunity to travel to the Mall of America – a 4.2 million square foot complex that is home to more than 520 shops, the nation’s largest indoor amusement park, the largest underground aquarium in the nation, and more! Take a break from the mall scene to eat dinner on a Mississippi River Steamboat and choose between riding the rides at Valley Fair, touring the Como Zoo, or visiting the Minneapolis Art Institute, or touring the Science Museum.  Finish up with two relaxing nights in Camp Ehawee’s rustic log cabins.  Must love shopping and be able to walk long distances.
